= BETTER HOCKEY EXPERIENCE
My boyfriend and I went to our friend’s house during the Habs game tonight.  On a 42” screen in HD we saW Kostityn make his two goals. The hockey game plays on two channels: CBC (English) and RDS (French), and my friend prefers watching the game while simultaneously playing the radio CKAC in order to hear the commentators’ analyses. He argues that the commentary on CKAC is better than the one offered on RDS (mostly Ben Brunet's fault but that will be for another blog). For more on the Benoit Brunet's lack of success in his commentaries I suggest you visit these two sites: <http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=825738> and <http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hockey/201010/03/01-4329190-benoit-brunet-de-glace-face-a-la-critique.php>. The second one is in French. CKAC not only broadcasts on radio airways, but it also broadcasts on its website.

How does he do it? CKAC’s online broadcast does have a delay, because it goes through a compression which is why there is a lag. But, my friend has the “techie touch” and he uses his PVR to pause the television feed in order to synchronize everything. If he were to use the regular radio, it would actually be in advance to the television broadcast.

It is these kinds of things that make technology interesting for me. Sure it’s a feat for my friend to tinker his set up like this, but rather than seeing new technology as rendering ‘old’ technology obsolete, it’s merging them in a hybrid intergenerational relationship.
